It runs from Raffles Place and the Marina Bay financial district through Shenton Way and Robinson Road down to Tanjong Pagar and Cecil Street, taking in some of the most recognisable towers in South East Asia: One Raffles Place, Republic Plaza, Marina Bay Financial Centre, Ocean Financial Centre, Asia Square, OUE Bayfront, CapitaGreen. The Singapore Exchange is headquartered on Shenton Way. The Monetary Authority of Singapore sits within the district. DBS, OCBC, UOB: all keep their head offices here, alongside a dense cluster of international banks โ Standard Chartered, Citibank, HSBC, JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank. Law firms, accountancy and consulting practices, insurers, fund managers, the regional headquarters of multinationals fill out the rest. Singapore's most concentrated pool of white-collar employers, in one stretch of land. Office stock varies accordingly. Glass-and-steel towers around Raffles Place and Marina Bay on one side; smaller, more affordable buildings in Tanjong Pagar, Cecil Street and Robinson Road on the other, several converted from an earlier generation of commercial shophouses. That range means the CBD works just as well for a bank's regional headquarters taking a whole floor plate as for a boutique law firm, fintech start-up or family office needing a few hundred square feet โ or just a virtual office address and nothing more โ close to the same clients, courts, counterparties either way. Getting there is straightforward, wherever a team lives. Raffles Place and City Hall: both North-South and East-West MRT lines. Tanjong Pagar: East-West Line. Downtown and Telok Ayer, on the Downtown Line: the Shenton Way and Tanjong Pagar end of the district. Marina Bay station, at the southern edge: North-South, Circle, Thomson-East Coast Line connections. Most CBD addresses sit a short walk from one of these; the dense bus network along Robinson Road, Cecil Street and Shenton Way fills in the rest. Changi Airport: twenty to twenty-five minutes by MRT or taxi via the East Coast Parkway. A genuine draw for companies with frequent-travelling staff or clients โ and a big part of why so many regional and international businesses choose to base themselves here rather than further out.
