One of the fifty-five planning areas of Singapore, Jurong East is a segment of the biggest industrial region in Singapore. The town accommodates nearly eighty-five thousand residents.
The area consists of ten subzones including International Business Park - the first hi-tech business park in Singapore. It encompasses a number of contemporary business centres. Among them German Centre for Industry and Nordic European Centre working here as incubators for European start-up companies. International Business Park is a part of the Jurong Lake District which is the main site for commercial prosperity distant from the Central Area. It serves to satisfy different needs of business and provide possibilities for professional development for people in the West region of Singapore. The area is also served by two Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations as well as Jurong East Bus interchange. In 2015 Jurong East was chosen as the place for the Singapore station on the forthcoming Kuala Lumpur - Singapore High Speed Rail.
Jurong East has three noticeable tourist attractions. One of them is the Science Centre - an important establishment which promotes technological and scientific education and receives more than a million visitors each year. It also locates the Snow City - the first entertaining snow center in Singapore. It presents the idea of snow and cold climate in fun and educational manner with plenty of workshops and teach-ins for the young visitors.
Another tourist attraction is Jurong Gardens. Chinese and Japanese Gardens connected by a bridge, are an amazing example of the unity of impressive architecture and natural environment. Modelled in the imperial style of landscaping and the Gardens are popular among thousands of tourists and local citizens for their splendid gardening art.
The area boasts a good number of leisure and sports facilities. One of the biggest and most visited is Jurong East Swimming Complex. Including air-conditioned sports hall, several fitness gyms and a stadium it claims to be the favourite venue for tournaments, various public events or leisure activities.
